September 28, 2013 – Walnut Creek – Joe Pool Lake.

Made a quick run over to Joe Pool to check for crappie.  Caught a few small ones while jigging stumps.  The water had cleared up from the rain last week, but I couldn’t find a large number of fish in any one location.  Found a few small bass and bluegills where I expected to find crappie.

Water temps were 77 degrees.  Rain was forecast for the afternoon, so I planned to leave around noon.  Well at 2pm I noticed a dark cloud coming in from the west.  I was only five minutes away from my car.

Then Boom!!!  Rain started pouring down.  I had to paddle to the car while getting soaked.  I was in a small cove, so I wasn’t too worried.  As soon as I get to the shore, the rain stops. Figures…

June 8, 2013 – Walnut creek – Joe Pool

Just got the new Ascend FS128T from Bass Pro, and took it out for a test run. This is my first SOT, so i was a little wobbly at first. I went out to open water, and only got a little water in the yak.  The sun got rid of that.  The only problem I had with the yak was the little rod holder that’s right next to the seat.  There is no way to paddle once a rod is in the holder.  It needs to be moved up.  The yak moves at around 2mph just casually paddling.  I got it up to 3mph by going a little harder.

I went over to Walnut creek and quickly got a small crappie and a small bass on a spinner bait. I threw the road runner around the area, but did not find anything else.

I threw my popper long the tree line and caught several small bluegills. The bite died down, so I put on some of the berkely gulp maggots and caught a few more. I even pulled in a small channel cat.

As usual, the big fish of the day came as I was leaving the creek. I threw a spinner bait near a beaver hut on the shore and reeled it back a few times. Got a nice bass sitting near a stump.

Same fish…
