October 18, 2015 – Wacked out at Lancaster Park.

I decided to get back into worm fishing, which was how I originally started bass fishing. Read a lot of info on the wacky rig. I pulled out the baitcast reel my son bought for me three years ago. I didn’t like the small rod, so I bought a Veritas 2.0 rod for it.

Most of the videos I watched used a rubber o-ring, but I saw one video where a guy was taking small twist ties and using them on the worm. I followed the instructions and headed out to the park to test out the new rig. I was able to cast pretty good, and got the feel for the weightless rig.

I was surprised to get a very large bass sitting close to the bank. I was using a circle hook, so the fish was hooked right in the corner of the mouth. The worm was sliding up the hook towards the line. I’ll be throwing this at the lake sometime soon.

April 30, 2015 – Lake Fork

Wind forecast was low for Thursday, so I decided to go out to Lake Fork for the first time. It’s a one hour and 20 minute drive, but what else did I have to do today?

I checked a shallow cove near the boat ramp, but did not find anything. Ran the hummingbird 598ci SI by the rocks near the 515 bridge, but didn’t see anything interesting. Started to scan the bridge, but the waves were a little rough, even with low wind. I started paddling away from the bridge, and noticed some brush in open water around 18 feet.

I dropped in a road runner and felt the familiar tap tap of a bluegill. I tied up to a nearby branch and dropped down some worms. I only got a bite once I dropped the worm all the way down to the bottom. I caught bluegills, drum, yellow perch, greenies, rock bass and catfish all from this one spot.

No crappie or bass from this location. I had something break my small #6 hook, I assume it was a large cat. I stayed on this spot for around two hours catching fish.

April 26, 2014 – Lancaster and Huffines Park.

20+mph winds outside, so I couldn’t take my yak out to the lake. I wanted to do a little fishing, so I headed out to Lancaster park. The bluegills are in the shallows, and they were hitting the little white popper I was throwing with my fly rod.

This bass was hiding in the grass behind the gills.

A large bass took the white popper down and snapped the line. I had to switch over to a yellow popper after that. Caught just over thirty bluegills and a small bass.

Headed out to Huffines Park in Richardson next. The wind was to high for the middle and east ponds, so I just stayed at the west pond near the gym. The wind was behind me, so I used the roll cast to reach the fish that were on the opposite (north) bank.

The pond is full of green sunfish that will hit the popper as soon as it hits the water. I stopped counting after 30.
