November 6 2012 – Joe Pool Creeks

Water temp was 66 degrees.  Started the day off at Bowman creek.  The water was very low.  No crappie in the trees near the entrance.  I only caught a small bass and a small white bass.  Got back in the car and drove down to Walnut creek.  No fish near the entrance.  Found a nice crappie near one of my spots.  Had to paddle further up the creek to find any more fish.

No fish near that overhanging tree, but I found a bunch of fish near some stumps close to the bank.  All of the crappie were 11 – 12 inches.  I pulled five keepers out of there.  Had a few throwbacks.  Found another set of stumps in the same area that held another three keepers and a few throwbacks.

Saw the guy I gave the road runner to yesterday.  He had what looked like a 13 inch crappie on a stringer.

November 5 2012, Walnut Creek

Water temp was a 65 degrees.  I checked my spots and found a 12 inch crappie sitting next to a stump.  I didn’t find any other fish sitting next to structure.  Caught a few small bass and crappie in open water with a road runner.

I noticed an large overhanging tree  in the creek that I normally pass.  The tree sticks out about 15 feet and has about two feet of clearance all the way back to the bank.  I pulled out the road runner and started shooting it under the overhanging branches.  Looks like the crappie liked this tree for some reason.  I pulled out over twenty fish from this one spot.  Four of them were keepers.

Saw another yak in the creek not having much luck with some sort of crank bait.  I gave him one of my road runners to try and went on my way.  I saw him later, and he said he actually caught a crappie with the road runner.

November 1 2012 – White Rock Lake.

Winds were low today, so I headed out to white rock.  Water temp was 70 degrees.  I had to put in past the filter station due to lack of parking for my trailer.  The boat ramp on the northwest side.   The wind was at zero, so the paddle to the dam was easy.  I caught a 12 inch crappie trolling a crank bank while I was headed toward the dam.

I fished that area for around ten minutes, but did not find any other fish.  I continued on to the dam where the water was 17 feet deep.  Fish finder showed plenty of bait swimming around, but I couldn’t get anything to bite.  Threw the spinner bait, crank bait, and road runner.  No bites.

I paddled over to the spillway and looked over to see a bunch of birds feeding.  The wall around the spillway is only around four feet deep.  Paddled back to my car and headed to the creek on the Northeast side.

Headed towards some branches sticking up in the water.  Threw my road runner and a big bass not only hit it, but broke my 6lb line.  Checked the pylons on the walking bridge and Mockingbird lane.  No bites.  Paddled up the creek tossing the road runner and spinner bait.  Went all the way to loop 12 and got…..  No bites.

Not a good day to fish, but a great day to paddle, since the winds were so low.
