Finally finished those poppers.

After putting it off for over two months, I finally finished those bass poppers I started on.  I painted the bodies previously, so all I had to do was add the maribou tail, the chenile body, and glue on the eyes.  I used tweezers this time, so the super glue didn’t get all over my fingers. (Nail polish will dissolve super glue…)

I haven’t had a chance to try them out yet.  Hopefully I’ll do that this weekend.

July 8, 2011 – Joe Pool – Walnut Creek.

My plan for today was to paddle all the way to the 360 bridge and see what’s out there.  The last mile had tons of trash, bottles, basketballs, soccer balls, etc.  There was a large tree in the middle of the creek, so I had to squeeze through to make it to the bridge. I didn’t see the large groups of carp like I did on my last trip. Found small bluegills all the way up to the bridge.  Also found a nice bass sitting next to a stump.

I spent more time looking at the scenery than fishing.  I caught a bass on my fly rod, two bass on a texas rigged worm, and one bass on a small swimbait. The random bluegills were not big enough for the camera.

July 5, 2011 – Joe Pool – Loyd Park

It’s early in the morning, and I’m loading my yak onto the new cart I just bought to make things easier for myself. I’m on the ground attaching a strap to the cart when I find …… ANTS!!!!  They got my right arm, right side of my back, and both feet.   I sprayed the area when I got back home, but I still have those bites on me.

I decided to go with just my fly rod today, hoping I could get a big carp on.   I caught three small bass, one 7 inch bluegill, a small catfish, and several small bluegills and greens.  And yes, the cat finned me while I was trying to release it. Left ring finger this time. Caught all the bass on poppers, bluegills on poppers and black wooly bugger, and the catfish also hit the black bugger.

Wind kept changing directions at every turn in the creek, so I had to anchor down a few times and fish a few spots a lot longer than I normally would.

Saw TFF user rg6942 in his canoe fishing with a small fly rod.  He said he was catching a lot of bluegills.  His tagline says he caries his canoe on a ford focus, and I saw it with my own eyes.  A small ford focus with a canoe trailer attached.
